Speaker: Purdue Calumet Chancellor Emeritus Howard Cohen
|
|
Purdue Calumet Chancellor Emeritus Howard Cohen stepped down last summer after heading Purdue Calumet for 10 years. Enrollment during his tenure climbed from 9,103 to a record-setting 10,133 while the proportion of full time undergraduate students has increased from 54 percent to 66 percent. His signature academic achievement was Purdue Calumet's implementation of an innovative experiential learning program required by all baccalaureate degree-seeking students. Howard Cohen is an experienced instructor of engineering ethics and his philosophical interests have focused on ethics for the professions and social philosophy. He is active in various community and board activities and is the author of two books and multiple articles. Mr. Cohen earned a B.A. from the University of Minnesota and both an M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Topic: Engineering Ethics

Engineers are faced with different situations on a daily basis while practicing engineering. This meeting will review ethics and professional responsibility as they pertain to the practice of engineering. The rules of professional conduct will provide moral and ethical guidance to engineers in their decision making process. Most importantly, it will provide engineers with insight on how to respect and protect their profession with utmost professionalism.
