Topic: Financial Concepts in Industry

This meeting will be different than meetings in the past. Not only will the meeting start at 6pm rather than 6:30, but the topic for the meeting, Financial Concepts in Manufacturing, will be taught by playing a game rather than through listening to a speaker. The game is designed around the concept of electric generation. In the structure of the game, electricity is just the widget being produced by the plant. Through the game we will see how the decisions made on all levels of the corporation affect the company's success. Each team will control their employee's compensation, their maintenance schedule, sales negotiations, etc. In the process we will see where each item shows up on a balance statement and income statement along with monitoring the company's cash flow. At the end of the game each team will explain their results to the other teams along with the decisions that led them to those results.

Many people who have participated in this game in the past have said that the structure of the game made it easy to understand the finances of a large corporation. The structure is not only perfect for engineers in industry, but anyone interested in learning about the finances of a corporation.
